Bike rental on the Île de Ré
Around 110 km of cycle routes for all
The Île de Ré and cycling have had a special relationship that goes a long way back. With its 110 km of cycle routes and its flat terrain, explore the island at your own pace, and discover its wonderful landscapes, from its beaches to its charming villages. Whether you want to follow in the cycle tracks of the film “Cycling With Molière”, set off on a little family road trip, or engage in something a bit more athletic, the Île de Ré has something for everyone. The distances to travel are all reasonable and within everyone’s reach, especially since major road networks are almost non-existent here.
Along the different possible routes, you’ll cycle by a succession of wild moorlands, salt marshes, small woods, beaches, and charming little villages, each site full of history and heritage. Most notably, there are 20 itineraries to discover the island in its entirety or in small sections. There are loop routes from each village (between 9 and 20 km in length), itineraries departing from the major towns and villages around 2 hours in length, as well as a complete tour of the island (90 km).
Crossing the towns and villages will help you to discover the island’s heritage. Some of the many gems nestled in the villages include the bandstand in La Courade, the Cabane du Douanier on the Route d’Ars, and the Saint-Sauveur Chapel in Sainte-Marie-de-Ré. By bike, you’ll have the chance to reach idyllic locations you wouldn’t be able to get by car. The section from Saint-Martin to La Couarde along the sea is a must-visit on the island, while pedalling at the heart of the salt marshes to reach Loix is also exhilarating.
